A documentary about Conor McGregor has been released on Netflix called ‘McGregor Forver‘. It is giving a great insight into the life of the highly-acclaimed UFC fighter. The documentary revolves around McGregor and his rise to the UFC. It is a four-episode documentary covering many stories of McGregor’s life. And it would have been impossible to not have segments about one of his greatest rivals Khabib Nurmagomedov.
In the very first episode, there is mention of Khabib. He is talked about in the first few minutes. A very special picture of Khabib and McGregor was talked about by John Kavanagh. The Irish martial arts coach said he laughs about the picture and event in hindsight.
He said, “If you’re in the MMA world at all, Khabib was known, clearly had a very, very difficult style to deal with. There’s that picture of Conor and Khabib after a fight. They’re both telling each other they like each other’s style, [saying to each other] ‘Oh, let’s train together’. I kinda laugh looking back at how that turned out.”

The picture was clicked in September 2014 after McGregor’s fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Irish fighter defeated Dustin Poirier and extended his MMA record to 16-2. At the time, Khabib’s professional MMA record was a staggering 22-0. Both fighters were at their peaks and still rising. It is surprising to remember they have an even more heartwarming past.
Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov had a wholesome conversation on Twitter
A few days before the iconic picture of Khabib and McGregor’s short-lived friendship was clicked, they were caught on Twitter praising each other and having a wholesome conversation. In preparation for his bout against Poirier, McGregor received a message from Khabib. The Russian fighter commented on McGregor’s ‘Dethrone’ range.
“I like this t-shirt, I need,” Khabib said to which McGregor replied: “My man Khabib!!!”
Khabib then tweeted: “Hey Conor, I’m in Vegas when you come let me know, I want you gave me this shirt.”

McGregor wrote back: “Lets do it brother!! I fly out to Vegas tomorrow!! Hit me up and we can train :-)”
How times have changed. Khabib and McGregor went on to become one of the biggest rivalries in UFC history. The rivals met in the octagon in October 2018. Khabib came out the winner in Las Vegas, extending his unbeaten record.
The pair could have almost been teammates considering they were ready to train together. However, Conor had insulted Khabib’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov in a now-deleted tweet. Their rivalry had gone too far.
