Colby Covington will take on Jorge Masvidal in a highly anticipated grudge match in the main event on 5th March at UFC 272. Ahead of this big welterweight clash, Khamzat Chimaev who is currently undefeated in the UFC has given his thoughts about his rivals and discussed several other topics in an interview with RT Sport.
According to him, there is no clear favourite in this welterweight fight and they are evenly matched up. While having a conversation about this fight, The Borz also revealed that he is expecting to face the winner of Covington vs Masvidal after his fight against Gilbert Burns.
“I think they will give us a great fight. Masvidal is a slight favourite for me but Colby is also a tough guy. We’ll see. I think it’s 50/50. I don’t care which of them wins, I am fighting Burns then, after beating Burns, hopefully, will fight the winner of Masvidal/Covington because it seems Usman has had surgery and needs time to recover.”
“I think the winner of our fight with Gilbert will fight the winner of Masvidal-Covington for the interim title, or just for the number one contender spot. And then Usman should come back and we’ll fight him.”
Khamzat Chimaev does not see Gilbert Burns as a real challenge
Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns are in talks for a big welterweight clash. However, the UFC has not booked this bout officially but the two welterweight contenders have verbally agreed for a fight on social media.
In an interview with RT Sports, The Borz was asked whether the Brazilian fighter who is ranked #2 in the division would pose him a bigger threat than his previous opponents. To which Chimaev provided an interesting response and he also predicted that he will smash him.
“All those numbers mean nothing. To be honest I don’t see a real challenge in him. We’ll see. Everything may happen in a fight. But I am confident as usual. I think I will smash him with my skills and power. I feel that way. He might feel different, but I’ll go out there and do what I did the last time.”
