Some fans tried to use their knowledge and made some guesses about what Dustin might be going through.
That's prolly MRSA , either it'll need to be lanced and packed or they have to put him under and surgically remove the infection and he'll have to pack and clean the wound for like a month until it closes….it sucks.

Standard of care for MRSA bacteremia is IV vancomycin (antibiotic). Nobody’s gonna put him under and take him to the OR unless the infection has spread to the bone. Lancing is for localized abscesses but doesn’t treat the source of the infection and still requires antibiotics

Should Dustin Poirier call off his career due to his recent medical condition?
Former Interim UFC lightweight champion and two-time UFC title challenger, Dustin Poirier is one of the best lightweights of all time. Dustin has been challenged for the lightweight title twice in his UFC career but lost both of those opportunities. He is currently 29-7 in the UFC and has won 8 out of his last 10 fights. He is coming off a brilliant submission win over fellow top contender Michael Chandler.
UFC fighters in their career are habitual facing lots of medical issues and staph infection is one of them. Though it gets worst in such cases, the chances of recovery are always high and many fighters have recorded from it. Even If he decides that he wants to hang up his gloves because of his unfortunate health issues, then he has nothing to be shy of in his career as he will always be remembered as one of the best to ever compete in MMA.
