When life gives you lemon you make lemonade. And that’s what UFC seems to be doing at the moment. After Gilbert Burns pulled out of UFC 251 due to COVID-19, the name of Jorge Masvidal came into the picture.
After destroying Darren Till, baptizing Ben Askren, and dominating Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal was the front runner to get the next title shot. UFC president, Dana White was eager to make this fight happen. However, this fight fell apart after Jorge Masvidal got into a war with UFC over contract negotiations.
Masvidal fought Nate Diaz in one of the biggest events of last year. And he was paid handsomely for the fight. However, UFC was not willing to put the same money on the table for the title fight with Kamaru Usman. And that did not please the BMF as he turned down the title fight and decided to sit this out.
Meanwhile, Gilbert Burns earned the number one spot by beating the former champion, Tyron Woodley. However, after Burns tested positive for COVID-19, the fight between Burns and Usman as cancelled. As per the earlier sources, both Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns did not board the flgiht to UFC fight island.
Has Jorge Masvidal accepted the fight against Kamaru Usman?
But some interesting turn of events has given the fans a hope that Kamaru Usman will indeed defend his title at UFC 251. But it will be against the BMF, Jorge Masvidal.
The manager of Masvidal, Malki Kawa recently teased the fans with the possibility of Jorge Masvidal accepting the fight against Usman for UFC 251. He also posted an image of Jorge Masvidal getting tested for COVID-19.
Now, this can mean that UFC has made an offer to Masvidal that he could not deny. Or team Masvidal might be just trying to put the pressure on UFC and creating the hype among the fans.

Even without Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal UFC 251 is one hell of a card with two title fights. It features a rematch between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski, a fight that will arguably determine the featherweight GOAT. it also features a fight between Jose Aldo and Petr Yan for the vacant bantamweight title. Besides that Rose Namajunas makes her long awaited return to the octagon.
One thing that can be guaranteed in this chaotic situation is that the fans are going to get an action-packed month on the fight island.
