UFC’s lightweight division has often been referred to as a shark tank. With what many believe to be the most entertaining division, there is a certain feeling that rankings can change at any time. As such, Arman Tsarukyan believes that it is time for Michael Chandler to prove that he is worthy of his spot.
Currently ranked #5 in the lightweight rankings, Chandler has had a tough time in the UFC so far. Losing 3 out of his 5 fights and taking a ton of damage in the process, Mike needs a win, and quick. As such, there are growing concerns about his status as a top 5 lightweight.
Hey @MikeChandlerMMA it’s time to defend your rankings! Lowest fight IQ in the division against new mma generation. I won’t see you at the top 🫡

Taking to Twitter, #8 ranked Arman Tsarukyan (UFC record 6-2) issued a callout of the former Bellator champion. According to the youngster, Chandler needs to justify his spot in the division. Moreover, Tsarukyan also added a bit of spice, referring to Chandler as the ‘lowest fight IQ in the division.’
Previously, the 26-year-old collected a unanimous decision victory over Damir Ismagulov in December last year. Rebounding from a loss to #7 ranked Mateusz Gamrot in June 2022, it appears as though the young gun is ready to take things up a notch.
Thus, the Armenian fighter wants Chandler next in an attempt to break into the top 5. On the other hand, Chandler last suffered a third-round submission loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in November. Although he has responded to criticisms of his fighting style, we doubt he is planning to change any time soon.
Michael Chandler and his recent losses inside the Octagon
Despite having more losses than wins in his UFC career, Chandler takes pride in delivering entertaining fights. Moreover, he believes that his losses ( against Oliveira, Gaethje, and Poirier) are justified since they were close affairs against the best in the division. Further, he also has two spectacular KO finishes against Dan Hooker and Tony Ferguson to his name as well.
Thus, fans believe that “Iron” only lives for big money fights and does not show true ambition when it comes to making a run for the title. Many feel that not only did he get an illegitimate title shot against Oliveira, he simply does not have the same skill level as other top fighters.
.@MikeChandlerMMA vs. @GamebredFighter would be EPIC 😤

Previously, we saw Chandler call out Conor McGregor and even offer to fight him at 170 lbs. Thereafter, a fight against Jorge Masvidal was also touted, but to no avail. Since then, we are yet to hear any rumblings of a potential fight from Chandler’s camp.
Although Chandler has been pushing for a showdown with Conor McGregor, it seems unlikely. Recently, reports have surfaced suggesting that McGregor could coach the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” opposite Tony Ferguson. If true, Chandler might be left with no choice but to face Tsarukyan and solidify his spot in the division instead.
Do you think Chandler should fight Tsarukyan next? Will he be able to win and regain some respect from fans? What are your thoughts on his fighting style? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
