Two days ahead of his fight against Nate Maness, UFC bantamweight contender Umar Nurmagomedov gave birth to a child and became a father. He chose to honor Khabib Nurmagomedov’s late father Abdulmanap by giving the same name to his son.
It looks like this week went perfect for Umar as he became a father and he extended his undefeated record to 15-0 by defeating Nate at UFC Vegas 57. The Russian bantamweight ruthlessly dominated Maness on all fronts and picked up a unanimous decision win in the recently concluded UFC Fight Night event.
After winning the fight, Umar sat down for a post-event press conference where he answered several questions. During this conversation, one of the interviewers asked him the reason behind honoring his late uncle Abdulmanap by giving his son the same name.

“My father chose this name. He say I’m gonna give him my uncle’s name. You know, Abdulmanap.” Thereafter Umar became emotional and could not speak any further about this topic.
Umar Nurmagomedov wants his son Abdulmanap to stay away from MMA
After explaining the reason behind keeping his son’s name Abdulmanap, Umar Nurmagomedov was questioned whether he foresees his child following his footsteps and entering MMA. The Russian bantamweight responded by saying that he wishes for his son to choose a different field.
“I really hope my son never comes to Mixed Martial Arts like this. But even if he wants I don’t want to take him in. I hope he’s gonna be like Doctor, Engineer because this is very hard.”
He explained this statement by saying training twice everyday and maintaining a diet is not easy and a fighter has to be focused all the time. It is needless to say that Umat had quite a surprising take about his son’s career choice considering he’s a fighter.
In the end, when asked about how the birth of his son will impact him, Umar said that the birth of his son has motivated him a lot and he wants to much better in his next fights.
The Russian fighter wants to be a champion for his son and from the speed of his progress and growth, it seems that Umar will quickly rise through the ranks and contend for the batnamweight title.
