In what has become a rather consistent trend of stacked PPV cards, the UFC is looking forward to the all-important UFC 300 next year. Amidst the rumors doing the rounds, a fight between Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall has emerged as a real possibility.
For the most part, the UFC’s third centennial PPV event is regarded as the holy grail for MMA fans worldwide. Thus, to commemorate such an important milestone, the promotion is working overtime to cook up something special. Having enjoyed a triumphant year with some of the best fight cards to date, the UFC has set high expectations.
Recently, UFC President Dana White announced some of the fights for UFC 300. Whilst the announcements received a positive response for the most part, there is an expectation that the best is yet to come. In the meantime, Alex Pereira vs. Tom Aspinall has emerged as a frontrunner for the main event on April 13, 2024.
With both fighters hinting and teasing a potential fight, despite the difference in weight, it has got the fans talking. Initially, Pereira put out a cryptic tweet, which some inferred was a trilogy bout against Israel Adesanya. Although Adesanya himself intends to return soon, many surmised that Alex’s message was for Tom Aspinall instead.
Fans react to the possibility of Alex Pereira vs Tom Aspinall at UFC 300
For those unaware, ‘Poatan‘ and Aspinall both fought at UFC 295 earlier in 2023. Whilst Pereira clinched the light heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka, Aspinall laid claim to the interim heavyweight championship. However, in a surprising twist of fate, the two champions now seemingly wish to face each other.
Whilst both of them are in different weight classes with almost 30kgs (65 lbs) between them, Pereira seems determined to make the jump. At the same time, Aspinall has vented his frustration for having to wait to unify the title against Jon Jones. Thus, with no reasonable fights for him in the division, the Englishman is understandably keen to fight Pereira.

With that said, fans have slowly started voicing their opinions about the fight. For the most part, the neutrals are all for it, but ardent supporters of the ‘Chama Man’ realize that it is a bad matchup for him. Taking to X, fans wrote, “Literally nobody wants this fight,” and “Huge Pereira fan but i don’t want to see this at all”. Similarly, others added. “As a huge Alex fan this is not a good matchup… Tom is way too good on the ground” and “Alex is gonna get cooked”.
Not only is Tom Aspinall one of the swiftest heavyweights ever, but he is also one of the most technically gifted fighters on the roster. Thus, most fans believe that there is only one way the fight will end, and it wouldn’t be good for Pereira. With that said, the Brazilian is not one to back down from a challenge but could be in for a rude awakening with this one. All things considered, fans will be keeping a close eye on how this story develops.
