With knockouts, submissions, and drama, UFC 283 had everything that fans know and love. Most notably, we saw Jose Aldo get inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame along with Mauricio Rua and Glover Teixeira announcing their retirements. However, many fans were left wondering about the whereabouts of UFC president Dana White during UFC 283.
In the lead-up to fight week, Dana put out his traditional “If you don’t know, now you know” video where he spoke about the fights to look out for. Following that, White also put out other promotional content for the event. Despite that, the UFC boss was nowhere to be seen during the ceremonial weigh-in or the event itself.

Usually, White is the man present between the fighters, during the faceoff at the weigh-ins. However, on this occasion, it was matchmaker Mick Maynard filling in for the role. Similarly, White was also absent from the post-fight press conference to declare the Fight of the Night honors and other bonus winners.
Along with Joe Rogan, who missed the event likely due to podcast or tour reasons, White was the only other notable absentee. Presumably, the 53-year-old decided to stay back in the United States, following the wave of controversy surrounding him. With his departure from the UFC being touted just a few weeks ago, White’s decision is a lot more understandable.
Previously, the UFC head honcho found himself in deep trouble after a slapping incident with his wife. Despite facing a lot of criticism, White was still said to be a part of UFC. Moreover, Dana went on to launch his latest venture, the Power Slap League, which also received heaps of criticism.
Dana White Reacts to Shogun and Glover Teixeira’s retirement
Despite missing the event, White was quick to make his thoughts known. Taking to Instagram, White congratulated Jamahal Hill for winning against Glover Teixeira and being crowned the new light heavyweight champion. Furthermore, he took note of Mauricio Rua and Glover Teixeira announcing their departure from the sport.
“Thank you @shogunoffical. It’s been an honor,” said White via his Instagram story. Similarly, he also wished the former light heavyweight champ, “You are an absolute BAD A**, @gloverteixeira.” Although it is currently unknown whether Dana will be appearing at future UFC events, it is probably a good idea for him to stay out of the limelight for a bit.

As touched upon previously, Dana is fully invested in the Power Slap League which started on January 18. Although many fighters, boxers, and fans have called for the show to be stopped, White seems firm in his decision and does not look like giving in to public opinion. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out for the show.
Regardless of whatever happens, Dana White is expected to be on the sidelines for the next few events, possibly to let the steam from these controversies blow over. As such, fans will be eager to know whether the head honcho will be present when the UFC makes its way to Australia for UFC 284.
