Khamzat Chimaev is undoubtedly one of the most promising fighters in the UFC at the moment. With five straight wins under his belt since making his UFC debut, Chimaev is currently ranked number 3 in the UFC Welterweight rankings.
With his most recent win coming over the former title challenger Gilbert Burns, ‘Borz’ has made it known that he means business. While there is still a lot of speculation surrounding his future, Khamzat Chimaev has locked his eyes on Kamaru Usman.
The UFC Welterweight champion has been out of action since November 2021 when he beat Colby Covington. Chimaev recently took to Instagram to call out the UFC Welterweight champion and said:
“Tell me when you’re ready @usman84kg”

Even though a potential matchup between Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev will attract a lot of eyeballs, Chimaev will most certainly not be the champion’s next opponent. Number 2 ranked Leon Edwards is currently next in line to get a title shot. ‘Borz’ will get a title shot only after this as things stand at the moment.
Can Khamzat Chimaev beat Kamaru Usman?
There’s no denying the fact that Khamzat Chimaev is one of the best in his weight class. However, can he beat the champion in Kamaru Usman or is it too far-fetched?
It is worth noting that Chimaev has only been in the UFC for two years. Moreover, his fight against Gilbert Burns was the only fight where he was truly tested. On the flipside, Kamaru Usman has proven himself against the very best. He has beaten all the top guys in his division at least once.
Moreover, Kamaru Usman was able to beat Gilbert Burns rather easily when compared to Khamzat Chimaev. So, as things stand right now, Chimaev hasn’t proven himself enough to suggest that he can beat the top dog in the Welterweight division.
However, regardless of whether Chimaev can beat Usman or not, a potential fight between the two will surely be an exciting watch for the fans around the world.
