Former UFC interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington has made some serious allegations about Dustin Poirier. The rivalry between the two started long back when Covington picked Poirier to lose his title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The former teammates have since been into a few verbal warfares on social media. However, the recent comments from Covington will not make the fan of the Diamond happy at all. In a recent interview with MMA Roasted, Colby Covington claimed that the only reason Dustin Poirier started “The Good Fight Foundation” is to get the tax benefits that come along with it. Covington even said that Poirier has confessed to him about his intentions with The Good Fight Foundation when they were teammates at ATT. Covington stated:
“And Dustin Soirier, Dustin doofus Soirier, because he’s a soy boy. That’s why I say sorrier, because he’s a soy boy. The guy’s a complete clown. He’s claimed to ‘Oh, I’m doing this. This good fight foundation. It’s for the people. I’m trying to get back.’ No, it’s not. You told me when we’re at ATT, you did that foundation because it’s a tax write-off for your business in the UFC,”
“So if you wouldn’t be so fake to the people and lie to the people about why he’s doing things that I would be cool with him and I’d be like, you know, I respect the guy. The guy’s not everything he says he claims to be this father figure, this nice guy. No, he’s not,”
Colby Covington takes a dig at Dustin Poirier
Besides that, Colby Covington even questioned Poirier’s loyalty to his fans and claimed that Dustin Poirier, who is considered one of the nicest fighters on the roaster, does not allow fans to take pictures with him. Covington claimed:
“There’s people that walk at the gym will be like, Hey, I got a picture doesn’t go look and be like, Nah, he’s walking a walk straight by like, what kind of fighter is that? Like? I always thought for people to take pictures if they want to, you know, take a picture of me. Always respect the fans that pay their hard earned money to watch this fight,”
Colby Covington has made some bizarre claims in the past. But he has also spoken some truth in the past as well. And that’s the problem if you are a fan of Colby Covington. It’s hard to know when he is playing the gimmick and when he is making a genuine statement.
Dustin Poirier, who takes on Conor McGregor at UFC 264, has not responded to Covington’s claims yet. However, the fans can expect some punch backs from The Diamond sooner or later.
