UFC women’s flyweight contender Roxanne Modafferi went head to head against Casey O’Neill in what was the last fight of her MMA career. These two fighters squared off in front of a jam packed Toyota Center in Houston, Texas in the prelims of UFC 271.
Just like every other fight, The Happy Warrior left her heart and soul inside the octagon in what was an epic battle that lasted for three rounds. But in the end it wasn’t enough to get her a win as Casey displayed her class to significantly outstrike Modafferi to win the fight via unanimous decision.
In this trading battle, O’Neill landed her jabs from the minute go at a high rate. The two fighters were relentless in their approach and fight fans were thoroughly entertained. Following her defeat against Casey O’Neill in her retirement fight, Roxanne Modafferi spoke with Daniel Cormier in the post fight interview. The Happy Warrior expressed her feelings and revealed that she had an amazing journey.
“I’m okay with that last fight. I gave everything that I had and it’s time for me to pass the torch for the next generation and I’m proud of myself. And even if you don’t win everytime you can still have an amazing time and this is an amazing life journey.”
The 39 year old fighter concluded the interview by thanking her fans and her coach for helping her make a comeback at her lowest point.
“This is the second time you have interviewed me after a huge fight that was a loss but thank you so much. Thank you to all my fans, you guys encouraged me so much, thank you for the love. Shoutout to my head coach John Wood, he helped my revamp my career when I was on a huge losing streak. So thank you John, all my teammates at Syndicate and all of you guys who’ve come before me.”
