UFC fighter Tony Ferguson was recently arrested on May 7 in Hollywood. The lightweight star is currently taking a break from fighting and is pursuing a business degree at Harvard. However, just like he does inside the Octagon, Ferguson is seemingly causing a ruckus outside of it as well.
TMZ was the first outlet to report that “El Cucuy” was taken into custody for a misdemeanor DUI. So what led Ferguson to be taken into custody? According to the report, Tony Ferguson flipped his pickup truck at around 2 am in Hollywood. Just when the MMA fans were recovering from an exciting UFC 288 fight card, Tony was out on the streets causing mayhem.

His pickup truck flipped over and crashed into two other cars parked outside a nightclub. One of the cars reportedly belonged to rapper Cash Gotti. Thankfully, nobody was hurt during the incident, including Tony himself. However, he apparently did not cooperate with the cops and refused to take a field sobriety test. TMZ further stated that some authority figures present on the spot revealed that Tony “reeked” of alcohol.
There was also a video posted by TMZ, which revealed the aftermath of the incident. Tony’s truck could be seen in tatters, while two other black cars were also severely damaged as a result of the incident.
Rapper Cash Gotti reacts as UFC fighter Tony Ferguson wrecks his Mercedes
Cash Gotti is a rapper, who has about 13K followers on his Instagram account. He came out with an Instagram story to provide the fans with some idea of the severity of the accident. He posted the video with the caption, “Crazy Story…”
After there is no word on whether Tony will have to pay for the damages or not. It seems like the destroyed Mercedes on the scene belonged to the rapper. There is also a lack of clarity on whether Ferguson has managed to bail himself out of custody or not.
Tony had a restraining order against him in 2019
Tony Ferguson was one of the best lightweight fighters during his prime. However, his career has taken a turn for the worse in recent years. In his last outing inside the Octagon, Ferguson suffered a loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 279. Not only that, it was also the fifth consecutive loss of his career. The 39-year-old currently holds an MMA record of 25-8 and has not won a fight since June 2019.
However, 2019 was not exactly a great year for him. He went through some mental stress, which made his wife issue a restraining order against him. His wife, Christina revealed some alarming details regarding the situation in 2019. Christina Ferguson cited several incidents which painted a clear picture of Tony’s disturbed mental health. Apparently, Tony shoved his in-laws to take his son and ran away from Christina’s La Mirada house on foot in the rain.
Not just that, from being suspicious about having a computer chip inside his body, to driving 111 miles away from their Plam Desert residence in fear of a flood that never happened, Ferguson had a tough time in his personal life. It led to Christina issuing a restraining order in March 2019 against Tony, which prevented the fighter from being within 100 yards of his wife and children.
In a statement, Mrs. Ferguson also added, “I am afraid that during one of (his) episodes (he) will kill me, our son and/or himself.”
While she dropped the restraining order the following month, it does not look like Tony’s trouble with the law has not ended just yet. What are your thoughts on the recent car crash? Let us know in the comments down below.
