Ryan Spann just fought Ion Cutelaba at the UFC Fight Night co-main event. He finished Ion Cutelaba in style to get back in the winning column after losing to Anthony Smith via submission in his last fight.
Ion Cutelaba was on point with the jab right away. He even landed 2 takedowns in quick succession. But similar to most of his fights, he could not do much in terms of threatening with a submission. Each time, Spann scrambled out from underneath.

Ryan was ultimately able to get his hands on Cutelaba’s neck and that was all she wrote. At the 2:22 minute mark, Spann sunk in a standing guillotine choke which was very tight. Ion did not have any chance but to tap out.

Following his win, Superman revealed that he was not at his best during his last bout against Anthony Smith. But he was able to get things right for this fight camp and the fans saw the result. Cutelaba was always vulnerable on the ground. Spann not only took advantage of that, he swiftly finished Cutelaba the moment he had a chance.
What is next for Ryan Spann?
Ahead of this fight, Ryan Spann was ranked no. 13 in the light-heavyweight division. Although he is not a household name yet, Spann has all skills in the world to turn himself into a title contender in the very near future. Not only his grappling, but Ryan also possesses an insane amount of power behind his punches. So he has the potential to be a problem for everyone else in the division.
As for what is next for him, Ryan Spann will certainly look to break into the Top 10 of the division. There are ageing superstars at the lower end of the division that Spann can target. Someone like Thiago Santos or a Volkan Oezdemir may be the next possible step in Spann’s career. He may even soon rematch Anthony Smith to avenge his last loss in the near future.
