Jorge Masvidal got in trouble with the law after getting into a violent altercation with Colby Covington. In March 2022, Masvidal reportedly attacked Colby Covington outside a Miami steak house.
The incident took place after UFC 272, where Covington handily defeated Jorge Masvidal with a unanimous decision. But, it was hard for Jorge to accept defeat and he lashed out. New footage now shows what happened after his arrest.
Masvidal was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief for the incident. Back then, footage of his arrest went viral, showing Masvidal in handcuffs. Masvidal hasn’t fought in the Octagon ever since, as legal draggers were hanging above his head. But, it does not look like Jorge was too stressed about his arrest. Recently released footage shows the aftermath of the incident.

The 37-year-old was seen in the interrogation room and he was calm throughout the process. Not only did he stay calm, but there were also moments when he showed some remorse as well. At one point Masvidal said, “It’s been a good streak, I promised myself never again, but here I’m.”
Masvidal also cracked a few jokes as well. Once the cops told him that he would have to wait in the vehicle for a long time, he added, “we could have stopped at Burger King.”
The real reason why Jorge Masvidal attacked Colby Covington
Fans are very much aware of the heated rivalry between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington. The two were best of friends before their relationship soured so badly that the two could not even stand the sight of each other.
While Masvidal alleged that Colby refused to pay the coaches, Covington took aim at Jorge’s personal life. They had a chance to settle their dispute in the Octagon at UFC 272.
But the bout was somewhat anti-climatic as Covington’s relentless pressure made Masvidal’s striking ineffective. Usually, competitors shake hands after their fight. But, no such gesture took place after their fight and the rivalry continued. Although Covington focused his attention on other opponents, Masvidal did not let it go. He threatened to punish Colby on the streets.
He followed up on his promise and sucker-punched Colby for talking about his family. Jorge apparently disguised himself and attacked Colby outside a steak house in Miami. Masvidal even posted a video on his Twitter account where he seemingly admitted to the attack. The punch allegedly broke Covington’s front tooth.
