In a first after his UFC 249 loss against Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson appeared alongside Ariel Helwani in a telephonic interview to talk about his UFC career going forward. Tony Ferguson suffered a brutal 5th round TKO loss to Highlight Justin Gaethje for the interim Lightweight gold. In the process, Gaethje earned an opportunity to fight for the undisputed gold and will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 254 later this month.
Speaking about his UFC career going forward, Tony Ferguson opened up about the offer he received from Dana White. Ferguson rained down on the UFC President.
“I don’t know what the plan was before or after, but I wasn’t ready. I am not much of a real planner, so I wasn’t planning already ahead of it. So Dana wanted to speak for me, he wanted to go ahead and wanted to be like yeah Tony is gonna take this fight. Bro we are not friends, I never said we were friends. It’s just business right. I am there when you need me. Seriously, man, I am on a contract, I do my thing. I love your family and all that, but I am not a piece of meat you know what I mean.” Ferguson said.
Tony Ferguson wants Khabib Nurmagomedov next
UFC President Dana White has been in a lot of criticism lately. Fighters including the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Jon Jones, Conor Mcgregor have gone against White in the past. Ferguson stated that he had no clue about a potential match-up against Dustin Poirier, however, he added that a UFC needs to pay more in order to make interesting match-ups like that. Ferguson also said that he had no problem co-main eventing a card featuring Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje, however, he is not waiting around for another opponent. Ferguson stated that he is ready for whoever emerged victorious at UFC 254, and can’t wait for his rematch against Justin Gaethje. Should Khabib triumph over Gaethje, Tony Ferguson wants his shot at the title belt in a hugely anticipated match against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Earlier, Khabib Nurmagomedov had teased Tony Ferguson vs Dustin Poirier for the co-main event of UFC 254, calling it the biggest card of the year. However, for now, Robert Whittaker vs Jared Cannonier will co-main event UFC 254 which will take place later this month.
