Colby Covington will take on Kamaru Usman for the welterweight championship at UFC 268 in November. Moreover, this will the second opportunity for The Former interim champion to win the belt as he lost against the Nigerian Nightmare during their first face-off at UFC 245.
Therefore the Chaos will try to take revenge for his loss when he faces Kamaru Usman at UFC 268. Moving on, a week has passed since the announcement of the rematch and Covington has spoken about the matchup in different interviews. He has mentioned in those interviews that he is very confident of winning the belt against Usman in November.
Hence, as we lead to the build-up of the fight, Covington took a part in a video collaboration with Bang Energy Drinks. In the video, Chaos was working out in a facility called the World’s dopest gym. During the brand promotion, Jack Owoc, the CEO of Bang Energy asked Colby about his future plans.
Colby claimed that “I’m gonna fight in my weight class against Kamaru Usman. I’m gonna get the world title, 170, welterweight, and then I’m going to be working with you and Bang Energy to put on the muscle mass and we’re going to go up to middleweight, to 185 and we’re going to beat Israel Adesanya.”
Therefore the Chaos has big plans as he intends to become the fifth fighter to become a two-division champion simultaneously. However, being a two-division champion is easier said than done because defeating Usman is a tough task. Moreover moving up a weight class will also be a big challenge.
Does Colby Covington stand a chance against the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya?
If Colby Covington defeats Kamaru Usman and wins the welterweight belt at UFC 268 then he will be in contention for a fight against Israel Adesanya for the middleweight belt. However, Covington will enter into the matchup against Adesanya as an underdog due to his massive size disadvantage.
As a result, Izzy will try to pick him apart by striking from distance with the help of his significant reach and height advantage. Hence, the only department where Covington can strike Adesanya is by taking him down on the ground. However, it will be difficult for Covington to move up to a higher weight class and start controlling the fight against an elite fighter. Therefore it is highly unlikely that Covington will be able to defeat the middleweight champion.
