It seems like legal trouble finds one way or another to hover over Jorge ‘Gamebred‘ Masvidal. It appears “a relative” of the athlete has been taken into police custody following an alleged shooting outside his Miami house. Jorge wasn’t home at the time of the uneventful incident and is not a suspect.
Andy Slater of Fox Sports Radio 640 initially broke the news on Twitter that Jorge’s father, Jorge Masvidal Sr. was in custody. As per the report, Masvidal Sr. happened to be a part of a verbal altercation with the victim. Soon after, Masvidal Sr. shot at him in an incident that transpired on May 4. WSVN-TV, a Fox affiliate in Miami stated that police took one person into custody shortly after 3 p.m. ET and described the event as a domestic dispute.
It is worth mentioning that Jorge has had a troubled past with the law on multiple occasions. Most recently, following his UFC 272 bout in March 2022, cops arrested Jorge for allegedly assaulting friend-turned-enemy Colby Covington. The 38-year-old is currently facing two felony charges for the same, with court proceedings to follow this month.
In a statement released to MMA Junkie, the Miami-Dade Police Department claimed the officials swarmed a residence on SW 118th Avenue in Miami with the UFC fighter as its listed owner. Upon arrival, they witnessed the victim, a male, receiving aid from an emergency response team.
The victim is said to have been shot “at least twice” in the upper extremities of their body, possibly the arm, before being taken to the hospital. Statements claim the injuries to be non-life-threatening and the victim is in stable condition at present. As per the police, both the parties were acquainted with one another.
Where was Jorge Masvidal during the alleged shooting?
As per reports, ‘Gamebred’ wasn’t home during the incident. However, a photojournalist working for WPLG witnessed Masvidal returning home while the police were investigating. It is learned that during his absence from the shooting, the UFC vet was out promoting his upcoming ‘Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA’ event.
Masvidal recently birthed America’s first and only sanctioned professional bare-knuckle MMA league. It is worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time the former title challenger will wear the hat of a promoter. Aside from Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, Jorge has put Gamebred FC, iKon FC, and Gamebred Boxing under his belt.
