Jorge Masvidal finally responded to Leon Edwards’ claim that UFC had to hide Masvidal after their altercation in 2019. Both fighters shared a heated moment back in March 2019 at UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Masvidal in England. Edwards revealed that after the incident the UFC management had to hide Masvidal in a hotel and rush him to the airport.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour show, Masvidal shared his part of the story.
Masvidal slammed Edwards claims by saying that he didn’t leave England for two after the altercation because he didn’t have his passport with him. “ You’re an Idiot, Bro. Who do you think are? James Bond. ” Said Masvidal. The fighter also said that he will share the documents of the England embassy to remind Edwards of what happened. The ‘Gamebred‘ mockingly said why would he have to leave England after striking Edwards. “ Who the F*** are you?“, said Masvidal.
“I punched you in front of all your f**** co-workers and friends” Masvidal revealed that he was against the whole team of Edwards all by himself but nothing happened.
Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal has a Two-year-old rivalry
It’s been more than 2 years since the altercation between Masvidal and Edwards took place in London. Since then the rivalry and bad blood has been erupting day by day. Masvidal has never shown any interest in fighting Edwards in the past but with his recent losses, UFC gave him the fight that will make him the closest to fight for the title again.
Currently, Masvidal is on a two-fight losing streak, both of them coming after fighting the Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman. After failing to get his hands on the Welterweight title twice in a row, Masvidal is now in a bad spot in the promotion. His next fight is a must-win to get his position back in the division.
Edwards, on the other hand, has won in nine of his last ten octagon appearances. If Rocky wins against a veteran like Masvidal it will only take his career to greater heights. It can also earn him the opportunity to get the title shot. The bout between Masvidal and Edwards is all set to take place at UFC 269 on December 11. Hopefully, the fight will give an appropriate ending to the long-going rivalry.
