UFC Welterweight Colby Covington faces heckling from former teammate and arch-rival Jorge Masvidal fans during an NBA event. Covington faced Masvidal at UFC 272, defeating the latter via decision. The bout was a grudge match on many personal levels between the close friends turned rivals. Both fighters had many things to say about each other, none of which indicated resolve.
Things escalated to the point where the ‘Gamebred’ even allegedly assaulted Covington while leaving a restaurant. This was just a few weeks after the UFC 272 bout, and Masvidal faced felony charges with a two-day arrest and a $15,000 fine. Bad blood continues between the two Welterweights and even their fans, as seen in the recent viral video uploaded by Instagram page Full Violence.
Colby Covington on Jorge Masvidal’s retirement:
“He was retired after I beat him. He’s a broken man. There’s a reason that he came out and did what he did to me in the streets like a little clown. There’s no pride in that guy.”

Colby faced remarks and taunts from a fan while attending a Miami Heat game courtside. The fan commented, “This is Jorge’s city, Brother, this is Jorge’s City, 305 Masvidal, Colby goodbye, do something, Jorge’s city, I don’t even know who you are”. This was concerning the ‘King of Miami’ title, which was also considered on the line during the Covington-Masvidal bout at UFC 272.

Although Cobly dominantly won the bout, outwrestling the former BMF champions, the fans still seem to support their Miami native as their favorite. Covington ignored the fan at first but was later seen as aggravated by the constant remarks.
Jorge Masvidal, too, took part in the same comment on the viral video and called out Colby Covington. He commented, “Don’t have to say nothing, the whole world knows you’re just a tourist in the city”. Masvidal has never shied away from taking shots at Colby and has called him a tourist, reclaiming the title of “King of Miami”. Fans are yet to see Covington’s reply on the same.

Many opponents were assumed to be in line, including Justin Gaethje, Nate Diaz, and Ben Askren. It was recently announced that Jorge Masvidal won’t be making a return to the octagon. But rather, he would be appearing in a boxing match against former rival Nate Diaz in March in Las Vegas. The two have competed before for the UFC BMF title, with Masvidal winning via TKO.

Although fans would be disappointed that the two veterans of the sport did not make it to the historic UFC 300 card, many are excited to watch them back in action. Their last bout was stopped by the ringside doctor due to eye cuts to Diaz, although it was mostly dominated by Masvidal in striking. Their fans and the MMA community would be interested to see a conclusion to the rivalry.
