Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal continues to be quoted as one of the biggest rivalries in the history of the sport. Two former best friends who were with each other for the better part of almost a decade turned arch-nemesis who stop at nothing to put each other down, the grueling rivalry between Covington and Masvidal seems to have lost its appeal in recent times.
Additionally, now with Masvidal dropping a vicious KO loss against Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 261 has taken the aura of invisibility that Masvidal had around him since his rise to stardom after the vicious KO win over Darren Till. “The Street Jesus” Jorge Masvidal has without a doubt lost his credibility among the audience as being the one to “baptize” fighters after suffering one of the most vicious knockouts of this year.

Needless to say, with both the fighters losing to Kamaru Usman, the match-up has a lost its appeal. However, if Covington is able to get past Kamaru Usman in the rematch, and Masvidal is able to secure back-to-back wins to once against cement his position, there’s every reason to believe that the match-up can once again earn its lost appeal.
Colby Covington has often stated that Jorge Masvidal has avoided him all this while, citing a non-stylistic match-up. However, Gamebred has shown great takedown defense against Usman in both the fights and is a very underrated grappler himself. Having fought against the likes of Nate Diaz and Demian Maia, Masvidal is a complete fighter.
Both Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington need to win their next fight
It will be exciting to see him go against Colby Covington, however, the match-up will only keep its relevance if both the fighters are coming off victories. Hence, it becomes important for Masvidal to secure a win after back-to-back losses against Usman. There are a lot of options ahead of Jorge Masvidal going forward.
Meanwhile, UFC president Dana White has already stated that Colby Covington is next for the championship belt. Covington and Usman shared the Octagon back in December of 2019 with the Nigerian Nightmare emerging victorious via way of stoppage in the fifth round.
However, Covington fought a great fight, showing resilience and giving Usman the toughest challenge he has ever faced in his professional mixed martial arts career. If Masvidal can make a turnaround from here, and Covington can triumph over Usman in his next fight can the epic rivalry between Masvidal and Covington can get its lost appeal back.
