UFC President Dana White seems to have given his green signal to Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3. McGregor’s manager Audie Attar also chimed in and called it a cheap move from Dustin Poirier. Many fight fans are speculating that it’s all a ploy by the fighters to give it a feeling of a rivalry that’s more than just settling 1-1. The well-behaved McGregor did not receive the same kind of attention and love that it has received in the past. However, his recent tweet gave us a glimpse into the old Notorious McGregor we have come to love and adore.
What’s next for Conor McGregor?
Conor McGregor has a lot to lose going into the trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. McGregor has not won a single bout in the lightweight division since capturing the lightweight gold back at UFC 206. The former dual champion’s last win came in the welterweight division against Donald Cerrone.
McGregor looked great in his return fight against Poirier at UFC 257. He was able to land several significant strikes on Poirier in the first round and even looked to rock him at one point. However, Poirier was able to thrive in the pressure and came out victorious with a vicious KO win over arguably the finest strikers in the history of mixed martial arts.
One of the biggest talking points of the fight was Poirier’s success in landing calf kicks which compromised McGregor. Additionally, McGregor’s over-reliance on boxing was also criticized by many fight fans. Needless to say, the Notorious will look to address these two questions and make further improvements in his game. Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier will once again make adjustments for what McGregor has to offer in the trilogy bout.
