Belal Muhammad releases a statement after being transported to the hospital due to a nasty eye poke that left visible redness and swelling with many believing it to be a serious injury to the eye. However, it looks like Muhammad is better now as he took to Instagram to address his fans after the fall-out of his first main-event fight.

“My heart is shattered my first main-event ended like that but Gods the best of planners. I am sorry to the fans and the UFC, you deserved a full fight.” Muhammad also added that there is no permanent damage to the eye. “The vision is coming back and there is no permanent damage to the eye. I will be back and I want to run it back.” Muhammad tagged Leon Edwards.

Belal Muhammad accepted a short-notice match-up against Leon Edwards after most of the top-ranked opponent refused to take the fight against Leon Edwards. Needless to say, Muhammad earned the respect of many fight fans. While the fight did not turn out to be what many fans might have expected, Muhammad is looking at running it back against Leon Edwards to finish what they started.
What’s next for Belal Muhammad?
However, Leon Edwards doesn’t look too keen on fighting Belal Muhammad again. Edwards addressed the media in the post-fight press conference and stated that he took on Muhammad because nobody was willing to step up against him. Edwards stated that he is looking at a title fight next, and called out UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

“I only fought him because all the other guys turned me down. The writing was on the wall. I was winning the fight clearly. And I don’t feel I need to fight him again. I need to move forward.”
It’s quite unfortunate for Belal Muhammad who was looking to find a name for himself in the big-leagues of the UFC’s welterweight division. Be that as it may, Muhammad deserves a lot of credit for accepting the fight against Edwards on such short notice. Additionally, Muhammad was also making a quick turnaround having fought just last month against Dhiego Lima.
UFC should be looking at rebooking Leon Edwards vs Belal Muhammad as soon as possible considering the dearth of options available to them if Rocky is not fighting for the championship belt next. However, there is not much anyone can say if UFC decides to book Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards for the UFC Welterweight championship.
As for Belal Muhammad, he certainly needs a top-ranked opponent if he doesn’t get the rematch against Edwards. Do let us know in the comments section what you think about the unfortunate conclusion to UFC Vegas 21.
