Johnny Walker is going to face Jamahal Hill this Saturday on UFC Vegas 48. Coming off to the fight with a loss against Thiago Santos, Walker says he has learned enough lessons and now is ready for a win.
Recently, the fighter revealed what exactly was the reason behind his failure to execute the plan in his fight against Santos last year. According to Johnny, in the middle of the fight, he broke his foot but didn’t inform his coach about the same. Consequently, John asked him to continue his leg kicks as Walker was applying pressure against Santos with them. But, Walker failed to kick.
“I was doing good, but I didn’t tell my coach, John Kavanagh, that I broke my foot in the third round. Because I kicked, then it broke, then I kicked again, and I can’t kick anymore. Then I forgot to tell him, and he thought, I wanted to keep doing what I was doing because I was probably going to win by points, but I couldn’t kick anymore. I couldn’t move much more.” Said Johnny.
What are the changes Johnny Walker made to his fighting style?
After losing to Nikita Krylov in the year 2020, Johnny decided to change his gym and joined Straight Blast Gym, Ireland under John Kavanagh. Since then, the fighter has won and lost one fight against Ryan Span and Thiago Santos respectively.
Walker also talked about the changes he made with regards to his fighting style with the help of Coach John Kavanagh. While talking to the media at UFC apex in the pre-fight press conference the fighter said:
“But no, he didn’t ask me to change my style. They just want me to improve myself, and they asked me to be myself more and be more unpredictable and go more forward but safe. I’m improving my game every day chin down, all my defense, takedown defense, everything, so it’s all good”
Walker is one of the most flamboyant fighters inside the octagon. With proper guidance and coaching, he can shape into a better fighter. That is what exactly John Kavanagh is focusing on. Walker certainly needs to level up his defense skills considering the knockout artist Jamahal Hill is.
However, all his preparations will get tested once he walks inside that octagon at the main event of UFC Vegas 48 this Saturday. What do you think? Will he be able to get a win against Hill?
