Vince McMahon was involved in several storylines throughout the years, gaining him a lot of recognition for his work. His unmatched dedication to making storylines more realistic and entertaining is something everyone talks about to this day. Though McMahon was always surrounded by several controversies due to his personal demons, his hard work and dedication to the WWE were one of a kind.
McMahon has taken part in multiple WWE storylines. Some narratives appear to have been forgotten by fans, but others delighted them. One such storyline was the live televised limo explosion of Vince McMahon. While it was an unforgettable moment for the fans, they still cherish it and have used it again amid the ongoing assassination attempt made on Donald Trump.
Former US President Donald Trump was shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. The incident is being investigated as a possible assassination attempt. One person died and two others were gravely injured during the heavy firings in Pennsylvania. Blood was seen on Trump’s right ear and streaking across his cheek as he was hurried offstage. He gave a fist pump and yelled, “Fight!” to the crowd before getting driven off.
The WWE Universe didn’t hold back as they referenced the infamous Vince McMahon’s Limo Explosion amid the ongoing drama during the US Politics. “Vince McMahon set this up,” wrote one fan while sharing the explosion that occurred on RAW in 2007. Talking about the countless references and meme sources WWE has had over the years, a fan stated “Why does the WWE have a meme for everything”.
Another fan wrote “Vince McMahon writing the Donald Trump election script” referencing the high voltage drama amid the elections. The FBI named the gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, which is a small town west of Pittsburgh, in a statement released early on Sunday morning.
Vince McMahon’s limo explosion storyline was scrapped due to a real-life tragedy
Storylines with “shock elements” tend to draw in more wrestling fans than other types because they create more buzz and discussion than other types of storylines. One such storyline occurred in 2007 when Vince McMahon “died” on live television, making headlines and offering WWE a lot of potential revenue. However, this turned out to be one of the biggest storyline letdowns of that era, lasting only a couple of weeks before the entire concept was shelved.
It all began when Vince McMahon started feuding with Donald Trump on WWE television. Their popular rivalry concluded at WrestleMania 23 which saw McMahon involved in a feud with Bobby Lashley. Following WrestleMania, McMahon and Lashley’s animosity continued, and Trump departed the WWE. With the assistance of Umaga and his son Shane McMahon, he defeated Lashley for the ECW Championship at Backlash, making history as a two-time World Champion.
Although their conflict was uninteresting, it may have contributed to Lashley’s rise to fame. One Night Stand was where Lashley got his championship back. McMahon was greatly affected by this setback, and he began to behave strangely. After that, Vince was shown entering his limousine on Monday Night RAW’s June 11, 2007 broadcast, which blew up to conclude the show. McMahon was later reported deceased in the storyline due to the explosion.
It’s possible that WWE had grand ambitions for the Vince McMahon limo explosion plot. In fact, a McMahon memorial event was planned for the aftermath of the explosion. But a real-life catastrophe forced the plans to be abandoned.
Police discovered Chris Benoit, his wife, and their son dead in their house on June 25, 2007, and they suspected both double murder and suicide. As a result, McMahon made his existence known and made an appearance on WWE television to pay tribute to Benoit. As a result, the Vince McMahon death plot was abandoned by WWE.
Donald Trump has been with the WWE for several decades
Over the years, numerous celebrities have made WWE appearances; among them are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ozzy Osbourne, Mike Tyson, Mr. T, Snoop Dogg, and Pete Rose, who have all been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s celebrity wing. Donald Trump is another person on that list. Trump sponsored WrestleMania 4 and 5, which were advertised as being in Trump Plaza.
Trump would also appear in the crowd at WrestleMania 20 to participate in an interview with Jesse Ventura. Trump’s most memorable appearance was during a feud between himself and fellow billionaire Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 23. Superstars Bobby Lashley and Umaga were chosen to fight on behalf of Trump and McMahon, respectively, at the show. There was intense attention on this fight since the loser would have to cut off all of his hair. Vince took the loss at the show which led to him getting bald in front of the WWE Universe.
The business titans clashed once more in June 2009 when Trump bought Monday Night Raw and declared that all WWE fans who bought tickets would receive a complete refund and that the next week’s show would air without commercials. The iconic Trump PR coup almost sent Mr. McMahon reeling, forcing him to repurchase his show from The Donald at double the going rate.
After this on-screen conflict with the Chairman of WWE, Trump turned his attention to American politics and moved away from his ever-growing real estate business and Emmy-nominated reality television series “The Apprentice.”
Donald Trump emerged victorious in his first presidential campaign against formidable opponent Hillary Clinton, exchanging his beloved television catchphrase “You’re fired!” for a national pledge to “Make America Great Again.” He formally took the oath of office as the 45th President of the United States on January 20, 2017.
