Julianna Pena created one of the biggest upsets in the history of UFC as she defeated Amanda Nunes in what was one of the best fights of the year. Pena took on Nunes in a five-round contest in the co-main event of UFC 269.

The Venezuelan Vixen shocked the world as she became the new bantamweight champion after trashing Amanda via rear-naked choke. Getting into the details of this amazing bout, the champion Amanda Nunes started strongly after dropping Pena and controlling her on the ground in the first round.

However, Julianna remained resilient and kept her nerves by not giving an opening to Amanda. Despite being in a disadvantageous situation, the Venezuelan fighter showed her jiu-jitsu skills by attempting a Kimura.

The next round was a game changing one and it was unarguably one of the best rounds in the history of the women’s mixed martial arts. Owing to the fact that both fighters traded several bombs and inflicted significant damage to each other.

Although Amanda Nunes came out bad in this trading war as she was dazed by one of the punches thrown by Julianna. After putting the Lioness on the ropes, The Venezuelan Vixen wasted no time and pushed aggressively. She threw a barrage of punches and hurt Amanda Nunes badly.

Moments later, the 32-year-old contender landed a slick takedown and took the back of the bantamweight champion. From thereon she got into a good position and locked in the rear-naked choke. The Brazilian fighter tapped out and Julliana Pena was crowned as the new UFC Women’s bantamweight champion.

What’s next for Julianna Pena after her submission win over Amanda Nunes at UFC 269?

Julianna Pena stopped run winning streak of Amanda Nunes in spectacular fashion in the co-main event of UFC 269. The entire crowd went berserk after watching an epic second-round war.

Julianna Pena vs Amanda Nunes

The Venezuelan fighter shocked everyone and turned her pre-fight statements into reality by submitting Nunes. After winning the bout, Pena quoted the famous Nate Diaz line in the post fight interview.

It is needless to say that Amanda Nunes will get an immediate rematch against Pena. And the UFC would try to book this matchup as soon as possible because Julianna is ready to offer a rematch to the Lioness at any given point.

In the post fight press conference, the newly crowned champion said that “”We can do it next week. I’m free next month. Two months from now. Jf [Amanda Nunes] wants to do a rematch, we can do a rematch.”

With the first fight ending in an upset, it would be interesting to see how Amanda Nunes comes back in the rematch after suffering a tough loss.
