UFC 305 is beginning to shape up with just the headliner between Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya as a done deal. As reports of other match-ups on the card continue to make it to the internet, Dan Hooker has dropped the curtain on a massive fight for the Perth PPV.
In a recent appearance on the YouTube channel mainevent, Hooker spoke about the possibility of fighting Charles Oliveira at UFC 305 and even revealed that he has accepted the fight and is waiting on Oliveira’s side to sign the contract.
“Nothing official, but I am my 100% in. The old Charlie Olives, that’s the fight that the fans over here in this side of the world will love to see. Let’s see if he takes the cake and signs on the dotted line.” Hooker said.
Needless to say, this is an exciting match-up and one that brings more firepower to the UFC 305 card. However, fans aren’t too keen on watching both the lightweight stalwarts share the Octagon.
UFC fans feel Charles Oliveira deserves better than Dan Hooker
Dan Hooker is ranked #11 in the UFC’s lightweight rankings, so for him to get a fight against the #2 ranked Charles Oliveira has brought about some criticism from fight fans.
While a good section of MMA fans feel Oliveira deserves better, others feel it’s going to be a horrible night for Dan Hooker. Moreoever, the fact that Oliveira doesn’t have much to gain with a win over Hooker, the idea of watching both of them in action is not garnering any interest.
But if you take a closer look, there aren’t really many match-ups left for UFC to make for Olives. Certainly, not a lot when you talk about the kind of buzz that’s expected every time Do Bronx steps inside the Octagon.
The former Lightweight Champion has faced every fighter in the top-7 of the lightweight division except Mateusz Gamrot, and with the PPV happening in Australia, and Hooker being a more popular name than Gamrot, it does make sense in the eyes of the UFC.
The match is far from official. In the past, Hooker has been linked with Drakkar Klose and Benoit Saint-Denis. Only time will tell what lies ahead for the Hangman, who is currently on a two-fight winning streak and last competed in July 2023.
