Beneil Dariush was initially set to take on Islam Makhachev. However, the fight was pulled out after Dariush withdrew from the bout owing to an injury.
Not long ago, UFC announced Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev for the UFC's lightweight championship at UFC 280.
And now, it has been confirmed that Beneil Dariush will take on Mateusz Gamrot on Oct. 22 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi.
Gamrot is on a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming against Arman Tsarukyan earlier this year.
On the flip side, Beneil Dariush is on a seven fight win streak. However, he hasn't been inside the Octagon since May of 2021.
Dariush vs Gamrot is being looked at as the #1 contender's fight for the UFC's lightweight championship, the winner of which will also be determined at UFC 280.
It's a stylistic match-up between two incredible grapplers and proficient strikers. Only time will tell who will emerge victorious at UFC 280.
Dariush does have experience by his side, but if Gamrot continues to perform the way he has been performing, there's no doubt he gets his hand raised in Abu Dhabi.
