The former two-division champion Conor McGregor took over social media to announce his return to the UFC after more than a year.

McGregor has been out of the sport since his freak injury at UFC at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier in July last year.

"Getting ready to bounce in a cage and lump someone around with a load of lump hammers. For millions and millions of dollars. Light work." McGregor wrote it in his post's caption.

McGregor's announcement came a couple of days after Islam Makhachev became the new lightweight champion.

Many fans have speculated that Makhachev will now dominate the lightweight and no one currently comes close to beating him.

The Notorious would definitely love to take on this challenge of beating Khabib's teammate in the near future.

McGregor's return date is not confirmed yet, he will most probably return to the octagon in the first half of 2023.

McGregor has also talked about his ambitions of fighting in welterweight. He has fought once in welterweight in UFC, back in 2020, where he knocked out the American, Donald Cerrone.
