After suffering a disappointing loss at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Team USA is up for redemption in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, with rumors of the inclusion of NBA stars in the team's roster.
With experienced stars like Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James and Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry already making their commitments, news of NBA MVP Joel Embiid is also in speculation.
Carrying no prior experience in national games and his eligibility to compete for Cameroon, France, and U.S., Philadelphia 76ers center Embiid has committed to play for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics.
Taking forward his excitement on social media, the reigning NBA MVP made an official statement on Twitter, revealing his commitment to play in the 2024 Paris Olympics for Team USA.
Embiid's post read, "I’m really proud and excited about this decision. It was not easy. I am blessed to call Cameroon, France, and USA home. After talking to my family, I knew it had to be Team USA."
"I want to play for my fans because they’ve been incredible since the day I came here. Most of all, I want to honor my son, born in the US. I want him to know I played my first Olympics for him."
The news, however, was well appreciated by LeBron James, who, upon being informed of Embiid's addition to the team's roster by a reporter, reacted, "That's awesome. To us? Great. That's big time."
While it appeared like LeBron had no clue about Embiid's commitment, the team is gearing up with the inclusion of experienced and emerging stars; however, an official roster is yet to be released.
