What Happened to Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson is a 4 times champion, he is a five-time NBA All-Star, a two-time All-NBA Third Team honoree and was once named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team and won the 3 point contest in 2016.

However, Klay suffered 2 drastic injuries. In 2019, during the finals against the Toronto Raptors, he went for a layup and landed awkwardly which resulted in a torn ACL in his left knee.

More bad luck followed into Klay's career as he suffered another catastrophic injury in 2020 during practice with his team. He was diagnosed with a torn Achilles Tendon on his right knee.

Even after suffering with career ending injuries, Klay came back determined and wanted to get back on the championship train. In the 2022 NBA finals he averaged,

17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 6 games in the 2022 NBA Finals on 35% from behind the arc.

However, this is where the problem begins. For his entire career Klay has never shot below 40% from the 3 point line, where this season he shot just 38%.

Even in the finals before the Celtics series, he shot 41% from the 3 point line in the Finals. Even in the eye test, we can see Klay not being much confident in his shot.

Due to the 2 injuries, Klay's defense has also been down a notch. He was defensive force, guarding players like Kyrie, Westbrook and beating them to their spot with his lateral quickness.

Evidently, 2 years away from the game has taken his lateral quickness and made him a slower defender.

Klay Thompson is also nearing his prime's end. He is 32 years of age, even though his shooting will come back with more reps but his defense will only start to fade away more and more.
