The family name that is perhaps most singularly famous, Nico Walsh has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Needless to say, the baggage of taking the name of “Ali” ahead is pressuring, and the 20-year old will have to walk with the pressure of being the grandson of arguably the greatest boxer of all time.
Nico Walsh professional boxing debut
The entire crowd rose to the chants of “Ali” as Walsh made his boxing debut against Weeks on August 14, 2021. Walsh has an incredible jab, just like Muhammad Ali, and relies on his ability to create distance.
Going into the professional debut, Ali dropped Weeks in the first round, landing a number of incredible combinations, thereby leaving Jordan Weeks without an answer. It was a fairly one-sided bout, going against a former mixed martial artist in the form of Jordan Weeks.
While fans did not get to see much of Walsh, it was a performance that has definitely put him on the map. Ali looked incredible in his professional debut, and will look to continue the same momentum, and could well become a huge name in the coming future.
“It’s been an emotional journey, this whole ride,” Walsh said in the post-fight press conference. “Obviously my grandfather, I have been thinking about him so much, I miss him.”
