It has been almost a year since Serena Williams last played a competitive tennis game.
The last time she stepped foot on a tennis court was during the opening round of Wimbledon, during which she had an unfortunate slip and had to retire due to an injury caused by the fall. Well, finally she made her comeback and won in Eastbourne with Ons Jabeur as her doubles partner.
A lot of people thought that Serena Williams would be rusty and out of touch, however, this is not true since Serena never seemed to have lost her muscle memory and seemed to be in rhythm throughout the match.
Even though this was a doubles match and there is a lack of clarity about the entire physical condition of Serena Williams, there were still moments of the old Serena playing tennis.
She was also questioned about her retirement, however, she mostly gave out ambiguous and vague answers. She also admitted to the fact that in her time after her retirement she did not start training right away and tried to be semi-fit.
The most interesting part about the match was the mystery face tape stuck on her right cheek.
Serena Williams evades questions about her mystery face tape
Serena was sporting an unusual and mysterious accessory. She was wearing a mysterious face tape on her right cheek.
When asked about the same in the post-match press conference it was clearly visible that she was evading the questions about the same, She even sported the three strips of black tape on her right cheek during the practice. She had asked one of her entourage to stick the tapes on her cheek.
It surely looked as if Serena was a bit nervous in the initial stages of the match since she looked a bit rusty but she soon got into the rhythm and there surely were fleeting glimpses of the vintage Serena.
Her service in the match also looked solid, with a couple of overhead smashes ensuring that she was in rhythm throughout the course of the match.
Even her partner Ons Jabeur admitted that she had nerves setting in before the match.
