A legend in kickboxing, two-time welterweight world champion Cedric Doumbe, is taking the internet by storm with his recent performance at the PFL Europe 3. The former kickboxer made a huge statement with his knockout as he was about to sign a UFC contract, but things did not go as planned.
The former Glory kickboxing welterweight champion was supposed to face Darian Weeks in the UFC’s inaugural event in Paris in September 2022. However, the fight did not take place since the French commission decided not to approve it.
Concerns about the fighters’ MMA experience were cited as the basis for their decision. Earlier this year, in The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, he stated the reason for not joining the UFC and instead going to the PFL.
Doumbe explained that a medical test conducted by a doctor had an error. Without verifying the results, the test report wrongly indicated that I had blood in my brain.
Even before all this happened, Doumbe signed the necessary paperwork to participate in a UFC event in Paris. However, when the UFC received the medical report with the incorrect MRI results, they informed Doumbe that he couldn’t compete in the fight because of the bad MRI results. As a result, the person was unable to participate in the UFC Paris event.
After this unfortunate incident, Cedric Doumbe signed the PFL deal in May 2023. Doumbe also indicated that the Professional Fighters League is the future of MMA, and he is very happy with his contract. He also mentioned that his current deal is 10 times more than what UFC has offered back then.
