The Wimbledon is slated to start by the last week of June and has excited everyone in the tennis fraternity about it.
The fans are also quite hyped up about it since after the Covid-19 pandemic this would be the first time wherein we would have a full-capacity Wimbledon for the fans to come and witness.
The Wimbledon went through a bit of a snag after the ATP and WTA decided to scrap the grand slam title tournament of all ranking points after they banned Russian players.
This decision has led to a lot of players thinking about boycotting the tournament. However, the organisers have decided to shell out the best ever prize pool in the entire history of Wimbledon in order to incentivise the players.
An increased prize pool for the Wimbledon 2022
The prize pool set by the organisers is massive. The winners of the men’s and women’s singles will win a prize of up to 2 million pounds.
The Wimbledon which is supposed to be starting on June 27th has a total cash prize of 40 million pounds.
The total prize pool of Wimbledon has increased by more than 5 million pounds compared to the 2021 edition, which had to reduce its prize due to the pandemic which affected the overall financial situation.
The lower enders in the tournament will be benefitted from the increase since the first-round loser will get a whopping amount worth fifty thousand pounds and there is also a prize worth seventy-eight thousand pounds for the second-round losers.
The organisers have surely increased the cash prizes keeping in mind the decision made by WTA and ATP to strip the event of any and all ranking points.
A lot of the players were displeased by the actions taken by the federation to strip off the ranking points. A lot of the players claimed Wimbledon to be an exhibition match and Naomi Osaka even threatened to not show up because of the points fiasco.
However, Andy Murray, the two times champion at the Wimbledon stated that the tournament would never just be an exhibition for him and the public and the fans do not care much about the points anyways.
