Fans are certainly waiting for the match at WWE Wrestlemania 40, as the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns faces off against Cody Rhodes ‘The American Nightmare.’

Cody Rhodes lost his chance in Wrestlemania 39 against Reigns and now, after winning consecutive Royal Rumbles matches, he has an opportunity for himself again. Although Rhodes didn’t want the match to take place at Wrestlemania XL, the involvement of The Rock led it to happen.

Both Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes agreed to the match on March 8, 2024, at Smackdown, and thus the event was officially confirmed by Triple H on Twitter.

After the Smackdown, Cody Rhode’s popularity had already gone crazy, as he was quite popular among the fans already because of his father, Dusty Rhodes, the connection that he built up with his fans is the same one that Rhodes has with his fans now, which makes him the face of WWE.

Now, that the match has been confirmed, fans are going wild about why Cody Rhodes should dethrone Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 40. There are a few reasons why it could be possible and WWE also wants it for their growth.

1. Roman Reigns has been holding the title for a long time

Roman Reigns has been the champion for more than 1,300 days and has already become the fourth superstar to be the longest universal champion in WWE history. He certainly has achieved what he wanted and also what WWE wanted.

Without any complaint, he has already become the “GOAT” of WWE, now, even if he loses, it won’t have any effect on Roman Reigns or his popularity.

So, this shows there is something that the WWE is playing that we even don’t know and this may increase the chances of Cody Rhodes being the one to dethrone Roman Reigns.

3. Cody needs to ‘Finish the story’

When he says he needs to finish the story, he means that he needs to win the WWE Universal Championship which his father was never able to win.

When he won his 15th consecutive Royal Rumbles match, he made it clear to every fan that he was going to end the ‘story’ this time, he says that he’s been dying to finish the story so much that his kids won’t talk to him and his wife left him but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to win at Wrestlemania 39.

However, the report further says that WWE wanted the same response from Rhodes when he declined the WrestleMania 40 main event position.
