SUMMARY
- Roman Reigns hasn't lost a bout since taking possession of the WWE Universal Championship in 2020 and the WWE Championship in 2022.
- Previously, Dwayne talked about sitting at the 'Head of The Table' referencing his cousin Roman Reigns.
In this modern era of professional wrestling, Roman Reigns has already made history. He hasn’t lost a bout since taking possession of the WWE Universal Championship in 2020 and the WWE Championship in 2022. As a result, his belts were combined, and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship was born.
Reigns has been the focal point of numerous jaw-dropping storylines for the previous three years. With regard to his current reign, The Tribal Chief has held the WWE Championship for more than 1200 days. With this, he trails only Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, and Hulk Hogan in the world record-setting process. Though his accomplishments are unparalleled, his cousin might spoil the whole scene.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made a lot of headlines after his recent WWE return on Day 1 and straight up kept a challenge that was heard around the world. He talked about sitting at the ‘Head of the Table’, referencing his cousin Roman Reigns. Over the years, fans have been wanting the two legendary Samoans to face each other for pride and legacy.

With the coveted title up for grabs, it will do nothing but elevate the already-hyped dream match even more. The Rock vs. Roman Reigns on paper looks like one of the most brutal matches in the history of WWE, but having it locked as the WrestleMania 40 Main Event might be odd for several reasons. As much as fans want this match to happen, they fear a lot of other factors might come into play if it happens.
Roman Reigns and The Rock needed to settle their dues in the past
Given the status of both superstars, Roman Reigns and The Rock have both evolved in their careers like no other superstars. Both were not given the appropriate amount of attention as babyfaces, but they were worshipped more than any other babyface of their time. Roman Reigns has done nothing but solidify himself as the needle mover in the company since becoming ‘The Tribal Chief’ in 2020.
Despite being in the main events of various WrestleMania, Roman never had the status of being a legend in the WWE before 2020. All this changed after his Tribal Chief persona came into the picture, as he turned his status upside down without the help of his cousin. It would make no sense to put him up against The Rock at this stage of his career, as he has already achieved legendary status all by himself.
This match would have looked more solid if it happened during the initial Tribal Chief’s era. At this stage of his career, he doesn’t need to prove his existence and legendary status after defeating the People’s Champion.
Dwayne Johnson will not be a full-time worker if he dethrones Roman Reigns
While many fans want Dwayne to put over Reigns and solidify his reign, many also want the Brahma Bull to win the coveted title once again in his career. The Rock has previously won the WWE Championship eight times in his career; it will be a moment to enjoy if he wins it again. But the problem with Johnson winning the title is that he wouldn’t be able to be a fighting champion because of his Hollywood schedule.
Though his win would be monumental, fans would not see him each week because of his busy schedule. His Championship would not be memorable and would be short, making him a transitioning Champion.
The Rock paused John Cena’s momentum in a similar turn of events in 2012
In 2012, the WWE Universe saw one of the most highly anticipated matches of all time between John Cena and The Rock. The stage was set at WrestleMania 28, which featured these two gladiators in the main event. While Cena was the face of WWE at the time, fans were eager to see how he matched up with the Brahma Bull. To everyone’s surprise, Cena took the loss and has not been able to recover his high status since then.

While the match itself was an instant classic, fans haven’t given the same amount of attention to Cena since then. They constantly booed the Cenation Leader, and even making him win against The People’s Champion in 2013 couldn’t fix the problem. In the process, Rock defeated CM Punk, ending his 434-day reign and demolishing his entire Era of Punk in 2013.
Cody Rhodes’s story can’t wait for much longer
All of Cody Rhodes’s promises to the audience remain unfulfilled. The audience has been incredibly enthralled by the former Intercontinental Champion since his 2022 return to the WWE. Despite having royally presented himself, he is still waiting to win the big prize and reach the summit of the mountain.

After winning the Royal Rumble match, he advanced to WrestleMania 39’s main event. Regretfully, Rhodes’s plan did not materialize, and he ultimately lost the match. Cody looks to enter the Royal Rumble again this year with all of his optimism and drive, hoping to put an end to his journey this year. The Rock’s surprise quest might spoil the American Nightmare’s ultimate dream, which would derail his momentum.
