SUMMARY
- Jinder Mahal is the self-proclaimed Modern Day Maharaja.
- Mahal is a former WWE Champion and is currently the leader of Indus Sher.
Jinder Mahal, the self-proclaimed Modern Day Maharaja, is a popular name in the professional wrestling world. The 37-year-old is best known for his reign as WWE Champion that lasted for 170 days, but wasn’t very well received by fans.
At that time, WWE wanted to portray him as a true Indian hero, and that’s why Mahal was given the push of a lifetime. But there have been a lot of arguments about the real-life ethnicity of the 6-foot-5 performer. So let’s check out if Jinder is from India and learn about his religion.
Mahal, whose real name is Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, is an Indo-Canadian from Calgary, Alberta. He was born on July 19, 1986, in Canada, in a Punjabi family, and that’s why he’s very fluent in Hindi and Punjabi. As his name already suggests, the former WWE Champion is a Sikh by religion.
Due to his pro wrestling career and association with the Stamford-based promotion, the former 3MB member currently resides in Tampa, Florida, US. Even though Mahal’s push at the top of the company was a long time ago, he’s still popular among the Indian audience.
The 37-year-old Canadian-born pro wrestler is now a member of Monday Night RAW roster. He is currently serving as the leader of the Indus Sher stable, alongside Veer and Sanga. Even though they haven’t been given much screen time on the main roster since last year’s draft, it remains to be seen what WWE has in store for Mahal’s stable.
Is Jinder Mahal related to India’s WWE legend, The Great Khali?
Alongside the uncertainty about Jinder’s ethnicity, another thing about which a lot of questions are raised is his relationship with The Great Khali. A lot of people believe that The Modern Day Maharaja is related to India’s WWE legend, but that’s not really true.
When Jinder made his debut back in 2011, he was put in a storyline with Khali, after which they formed an alliance and then feuded. Moreover, the two are also Kayfabe Brothers-in-Law, but it hasn’t been brought up by WWE for a long time now.

The reason why the Triple H-led promotion associated them on a number of occasions was to get more viewers from the Indian market. Due to the same reason, Khali made a return to help Mahal during his match against Randy Orton at Battleground 2017.
Despite sharing all this history together, The Great Khali and the former 3MB member aren’t really related in real life. But the Modern Day Maharaja has revealed a number of times that they are really good friends.
It’s been a long time since the 51-year-old legend was seen in the Triple H-led promotion, but there’s a possibility that the company can call him back. Will WWE have him back into the company to associate him again with Jinder Mahal? If yes, it could probably be beneficial for both of them. So, let’s see if anything like that happens in the near future or not.
