The iconic feud between John Cena and Brock Lesnar gave numerous unforgettable moments to the WWE Universe. Consequently, one such moment came when the Beast Incarnate ruthlessly thrashed the Cenation Leader at the 2014 SummerSlam.
While in an interview with Notsam Wrestling, The Champ talked about his SummerSlam beatdown. Cena revealed that it was related to Lesnar breaking The Undertaker’s iconic 21-match WrestleMania streak. The Doctor of Thuganomics stated that it was Lesnar’s first match after he took down The Undertaker, thus, it can’t be a 50-50.
“If I go out and have a 50/50 match and he just sneaks over, we wasted all that. But if you take that unbelievable feat with another unbelievable feat now we have passed the energy and that is how you make someone,” Cena said.
He also revealed that the mastermind behind Lesnar destroying Cena in order to keep the WrestleMania streak credible was Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Beast Incarnate and The Texas Rattlesnake discussed the plan at dinner.
“I remember Brock being like ‘Hey I had dinner with Steve Austin last night and we came up with this idea where I just start suplexing you and don’t stop and then beat you’. I’m like well we both collectively agreed that you just beat The Streak, we ruin that if we have a fifty-fifty match.” Cena concluded.
Thus, it’s fair to say that the SummerSlam fixture played a major role in making Brock Lesnar the type of dominant character he is currently. Because defeating him is a big deal for any superstar even these days.
John Cena and Brock Lesnar’s rivalry since 2012
After Brock Lesnar made his WWE return in 2012, he clashed with John Cena for a total of four times. In 2012 Extreme Rules, The Cenation Leader defeated Brock Lesnar in around 18 minutes.
After two years, the pair again locked horns against each other at SummerSlam, where the Beast Incarnate defeated John Cena to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Next month at Night of Champions, The Conqueror lost the match after getting disqualified but due to the Champion’s advantage, the title remained with him.
Royal Rumble 2015, which was one of the worst in history, was headlined by the triple threat match between Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Seth Rollins. The match met with great reactions from the WWE Universe, however, Lesnar defended his title again.
