Dwayne Johnson goes nuclear on Cody Rhodes fans shortly before the WrestleMania 40 press conference!
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently returned to WWE television after years and he is seemingly set to take on Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship in the WrestleMania 40 main event. However, many fans are not happy with it as they think Rhodes is the deserving candidate for the match.
After his return to the company at WrestleMania 38, the only thing on his mind has been the WWE Championship. Hence, many wanted him to win his Mania 39 showdown against Reigns. However, “The Tribal Chief” retained it and it set up the stage for a huge rematch at a later stage. Hence, the audiences thought Rhodes would ‘finish his story’ at WrestleMania 40 after winning the men’s Royal Rumble in 2024.
Dwayne Johnson decimates Cody Rhodes fans after severe backlash
Dwayne Johnson recently found a seat on the TKO board of directors after WWE’s recent partnership with Netflix that earned the company $5 billion. Aside from the position on the board and $30 million worth of TKO shares, the 51-year-old also reportedly holds a huge amount of creative control as well. Interestingly, his powers may even be greater than the WWE CCO Triple H.

Reports have also indicated that Johnson pushed to face Roman Reigns and was making a case for himself to be the winner as well. Needless to say, all the chatter has soured the fans on The Rock’s WWE return. Things have also gone to such an extent that ‘We Want Cody’ has become a huge trend on X/Twitter. Many wrestling personalities have also supported the 38-year-old publicly as well.
While The Rock has kept quiet for a while, it seems like he has finally lost it. During his most recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Johnson destroyed a portion of the fan base that has taken the online trolling to sinister levels.
The $800 million rich actor added, “I expected, we expected it because it’s right there & you go back & again you like to think ‘Hey I got my finger on the pulse’, we all try to keep the finger on the pulse, ultimately what the fans want & what they’re saying & often times, in sports, entertainment, anywhere, there’s a wave of noise that happens right out of the gate, that you just wanna pause for a second, let’s not make any rash decisions, let’s wait & see how it all shakes out & see what happens from there so just a matter of waiting”.

He continued, “…was not surprised at it, did expect it but here’s the fun part, love Cody, love his passionate fans, then there’s the other passionate Cody fans & their called ‘Cody crybabies’, these are grown a** men, ‘Cody’s gotta finish his story’, it’s like.. wait a second hold on, ‘hey dad you wanna go outside & play catch w/me?! Not now Cody’s gotta finish his story & I’m upset, wife comes in ‘hey honey you wanna go have s*x, ‘not now Cody’s gotta finish his story!’”. (h/t via Wrestle Ops)
While it may seem like The Rock is overreacting a tad, there is some context behind the frustration. Recently, the ‘Jumanji’ actor’s eldest daughter Ava Raine aka Simone Johnson had to deactivate her X/Twitter account after receiving a ton of backlash for her father’s involvement in the WWE title picture.

However, Ava, who is the youngest general manager in NXT history, had nothing to do with bookings in the main roster and fans abusing her certainly crossed a limit. Hence, it is understandable why Johnson is quite frustrated with the fans. What are your thoughts on the comments? Let us know in the comments down below.
