Dwayne Johnson’s work ethic has been one of the biggest talking points about the WWE superstar-turned-actor. Whether it be his work inside the ring as The Rock, his work as an actor, or his entrepreneurial ventures, Dwayne Johnson has always tried to be a step ahead of the curve.
At 51, The Rock still works as hard as he did in his 20s and has some great people supporting him. One of those friends who always inspired the WWE legend was Kobe Bryant. The basketball legend sadly passed away in 2020 after a helicopter crash. Throughout his career, Bryant was one of the greatest to have ever laced up a pair of boots and was immensely hardworking while being a family man.

Speaking on The Pivot podcast, The Rock opened up about his relationship with the late Kobe Bryant and how the latter inspired him. Johnson stated that it was the small things about Kobe Bryant that inspired him most and that he never backed down from putting in the work.
“I loved Kobe, what he stood for, and his work ethic. And I love sometimes, as hard as Kobe worked, I loved that when he spoke in this way, that I always felt was so simplified and powerful. He would say something to the effect of, ‘You’re a little better today than you were yesterday. Wake up tomorrow, and let’s be better tomorrow than you were today. Don’t think of this as a loss, you’re gonna learn.’ And then, that level of hunger is always inspiring when it comes to Kobe because he is a guy who reached the top.”
During his illustrious 20-year career, Kobe Bryant was always with the LA Lakers and won 10 NBA championships with them. He also ranks fourth on the list of most points scored and is second on the list of most All-Star MVP trophies.
Dwayne Johnson also opened up on being a “s*it of a friend”
The WWE legend has admitted to not having many friends. He has openly stated that throughout his life, he had a routine similar to that of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and did not have many friends. He strived to be the best at what he did and, much like Bryant, did not make many friends.
“I was a s*it of a friend, and I didn’t have a lot of friends,” The Rock said.
The Brahma Bull realized later on in his life that having friends was also necessary and that life was an “endurance race,” and that helped him grow into the person he is today. The Rock currently has a legendary friendship with comedian and actor Kevin Hart, and the banter between them has always been entertaining.

Dwayne Johnson also detailed, during the podcast, that as he grew older he realized that he needed friends not just for company but also to lean on them and learn from them. The Rock mentioned that having friends is “vitally important,” especially someone like Kevin Hart, who has had his fair share of struggles in his life. The Rock understands that being able to call someone after having a bad day is also essential.
