WWE Fastlane is just hours away, and the show is expected to be a blockbuster of an event. Among all the matches on the card, the one thing everyone is highly excited to see is the team-up between John Cena and LA Knight.
The two baby faces are set to team up at Saturday’s premium live event, as they’ll take on Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. But just days before, the 16-time World Champion shared how he finds parallels with his Fastlane 2023 tag partner.
The Cenation Leader revealed this during his appearance on the October 4 episode of WWE’s The Bump show. While talking about the 40-year-old performer’s rise, Cena disclosed how he finds similarities between himself and the former NXT Million Dollar Champion.
The WWE legend said, “LA Knight and my story run parallel, he kind of just refused to give up and has done it his own way, even with being an underdog and being forgotten by the people in the bowels of the arena, but not by the people in the arena cheering him on.” (Credits- Fightful)
John further said that everything LA has done till now is incredible. The veteran also shared how Knight reminds him of the days when he started to get a little bit of relevance in the company. Looking at Cena’s comments about his partner, it’s obvious that he’s in awe of the popularity the 6-foot-1 star has earned in the WWE.
LA Knight wasn’t originally John Cena’s teammate for Fastlane
Even though The Cenation Leader and Knight are now going to team up at Fastlane, the initial plan was different. The 40-year-old wasn’t originally Cena’s teammate for the PLE in Indianapolis. It was AJ Styles who was set to be the veteran’s partner for the event.
The Phenomenal One was originally announced to feature in the tag team match against The Bloodline. But these plans were scrapped after he was injured by a vicious attack by Solo Sikoa. As AJ was taken out, it became a handicap match which was a huge disadvantage for the 16-time WWE Champion.
During the contract signing segment, the heels tried to take out Cena, and that’s when Knight entered this story. The fan-loved star came out to his aid and signed the contract to become John’s tag partner for the premium-live-event.
Does John Cena have a partner? YEAH! 🔥

Now that LA is set to feature at Fastlane, it remains to be seen how he works with John Cena. Moreover, it’ll be interesting to see if the baby faces can come out on top. If not, will the heels will use some heelish tactics to get the win. Whatever the result comes out to be, this match is surely going to be a classic one.
