Cody Rhodes is currently a huge name in the world of pro wrestling. He was previously a part of AEW; however, he is currently one of the top Superstars in WWE. Fans love Rhodes and often talk about him. In fact, not only the fans but many from the wrestling world have often been seen sharing their thoughts on The American Nightmare. Now, it seems an AEW personality has something to say as well.
Cody Rhodes, along with others, formed All Elite Wrestling in January 2019. Thereafter, the promotion went on to hold its first ‘All Out’ event. At the event, Chris Jericho became the first AEW World Champion by defeating Adam Page.
Moving ahead, Rhodes faced Jericho at AEW Full Gear 2019. The stipulation was set that if he lost, he would never be allowed to go after the AEW World Championship. At the event, Jericho defeated Rhodes, so the latter would have to stick by the stipulation.
Interestingly, the decision to set the stipulation was made by Rhodes. He made the decision to stay away from fan backlash if he booked himself as the champion. However, now it seems the director of business development at AEW, Jeff Jarrett, thinks The American Nightmare’s decision was a flaw.
Jarrett recently spoke on the ‘My World‘ podcast. During that, he commented on Rhodes’ decision and said “I never liked that (stipulation) that Cody put on himself. I think it was super counterproductive and it brought a light to a situation that I didn’t think he needed to bring a light to”.
Jarrett added that he got Rhodes’ point of view and that he wanted to avoid criticism. However, he doesn’t think it was for the right reason. Thus, the 56-year-old wrestling legend has pointed out a flaw in Rhodes’ extensive AEW run. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes is no longer a part of AEW and is currently showcasing his dominance within the Stamford-based promotion.
Why did Cody Rhodes leave AEW?
The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes was previously part of WWE from 2006 to 2016. Following his departure from the Stamford-based promotion, he appeared in various promotions. However, he finally became one of the founders of AEW. There, he worked as a wrestler and the Executive Vice President of the promotion.
During his time at AEW, he participated in several matches and won several championships. However, in February 2022, Cody, along with his wife, Brandi Rhodes, left Jacksonville-based promotion. According to sources, they departed from the promotion because they were unable to negotiate a new contract. However, as per Rhodes, a ‘personal issue’ led to his departure.
Following that, Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022 and, since then, has gained immense popularity among his fans. He has participated in several top-notch matches and has been seen at the majority of the PPV events.
Not to mention, he will once again be seen at the upcoming pay-per-view event, WWE Fastlane 2023. At the event, The American Nightmare will team up with Jey Uso to face Finn Balor and Damian Priest. It will be a tag team match with the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on the line. With that, fans are now immensely excited to see what the outcome of the match will be.
