WWE legends John Cena and Dwayne Johnson had an epic rivalry heading into WrestleMania 28. Cena berated The Rock for leaving the business to make a name for himself in Hollywood. The promos led to some heated moments between the two legends. One particular promo that seemingly soured their relationship was when Cena mentioned that Johnson writes down his promos on his forearm.
The Cenation Leader recently appeared on the Notsam Wrestling podcast, where he opened up on several issues, including the feud against The Rock. When asked about whether there were any ramifications following his promo and what his thought process was, the veteran stated that he did what he had to to make the feud more intriguing. He later opened up about apologizing to Johnson’s mother after the match.

“Of course, there were ramifications, and it led to some genuine emotions between the two of us, but when it all began to melt away was when we decided the path of the match the day before. Dwayne could see not only how easy I was to work with but how adamant I was. […] The moment the ice began to melt was right after [the match] when the first thing I did was apologize to his mom. I said, ‘Being in the business, I hope you understand, I just wanted to sell tickets. I’m sorry if I made you feel a certain way, that was not my intention. But also, from my perspective, it was like a surprise party, where if I told you the gig, it may be would have ruined some stuff.’ She gave me a great hug and said, ‘Thank you,’” Cena said.
The Rock and John Cena faced off one more time at WrestleMania 29 for the WWE Championship. It was their second WrestleMania match in successive years. While The Rock emerged victorious the first time, John Cena triumphed the second time. The legends have been on good terms ever since. They even held each other’s arms up in the air and celebrated at the end of WrestleMania 29.
When was John Cena’s last WWE match?
Dwayne Johnson has not returned to the ring since his infamous bout at WrestleMania 32 when he defeated Erick Rowan in six seconds. While he was massively speculated to be making an in-ring return to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, plans later had to be scrapped.
It was reported that The Rock did not feel that he was in good shape or that he could get in shape to come back to face Reigns. WrestleMania 39 was in Hollywood and would have been the perfect opportunity for the two family members to have feuded.
However, The Rock is unlikely to return. John Cena last wrestled at ‘Mania 39. The 16-time world champion was in action against Austin Theory for the United States Championship but could not emerge victorious.

The match was not as highly acclaimed as many would have thought for a John Cena bout, with the finish being criticized by many. However, there is a possibility that Cena will eventually return down the line to finish his feud with Theory, who won via a low blow. It remains to be seen how that will pan out.
