Mustafa Ali has not been seen on TV for a while. Not only that, but he is also not been working the Live-Shows either. It has been reported by several sources that Ali has had problems with management. Ali has been asking for his release for a while now. But WWE has refused to release Ali from his contract. Now it looks like Ali has made the decision to sit out for the rest of his contract. Is WWE okay with this? What will the company do?
A look at Ali’s WWE run
WWE seem to have not been using Ali to his full potential. Ever since his debut in the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament, he has only been used as a mid-card-talent. After his run in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, Ali moved on to 205Live. Then Ali moved to the main roster. He has wrestled on both Raw and SmackDown. The fans have always been on Ali’s side but the management has not.
He has never won a single title in WWE. Superstars like Daniel Bryan and people like Paul Heyman were fighting hard to get Ali the push he deserves. Thanks to them, in 2019, Ali had the opportunity to fight for the WWE title. But sadly, due to an unfortunate injury during his match against Randy Orton, Ali was replaced at the last minute and Kofi Kingston got the opportunity. This was the biggest moment for Kofi Kingston as he went on to win the WWE Title at WrestleMania.
Ali was blamed for the injury and his ‘Push‘ was over. When Ali returned from injury the WWE Title opportunity he has was barely spoken about. Instead, Ali was the leader of a faction called Retribution. The creative team had treated ‘Retribution‘ like a joke from the get-go by giving them horrible names and all they did was lose.
Mustafa Ali’s conflict with WWE management
Ali despite trying his absolute best to save this gimmick but still was not happy with it. The leader of Retribution had an interesting character that he wanted to portray. He pitched the idea to management but it was denied by them claiming it was ‘too controversial‘. Ali and McMahon had argued about this for a while and it boiled up to the point that Ali requested his release. The release was denied by WWE and all Ali could do is vent out his frustration on social media.
Ali shared his idea via a well-produced video on Twitter.
a few weeks ago, i made a statement that some deemed controversial. my intentions were to bring a beautiful vision to life. unfortunately, for reasons beyond my control, i won’t be able to make that vision a reality. but i can share with you what could have been. pic.twitter.com/V2bKzYJUrw

WWE even asked Ali if he would like to join the Rumble as compensation, but Ali refused and demanded his release from the company.
He still has over 2 years left in his contract and adding the 90-day non-compete clause, it will come up to roughly two-and-a-half years. With his release being denied, Ali has made a decision to sit out for the rest of his contract. This is evident with his tweet from earlier this week.
i’ll see ya all in like 2 1/2 years

Mustafa Ali has made his decision. He is adamant about no longer working for WWE. So, the company only has 2 options. WWE can agree to Ali’s pitch and go ahead and let him portray the character of his choice. Or else, they can release Ali from his contract. If the company lets him sit out for the rest of his contract, it does not help either WWE or the former leader of Retribution.
