It looks like WWE has found its Next Big Thing; One More Time. In 2002, former NCAA Division I Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar made his debut for Vince McMahon’s company. He has gone on to become one of the biggest stars in Sports Entertainment history. In 2022, WWE might be looking to repeat Brock’s success story with the second Olympic Gold Medalist to join their roster; Gable Steveson.
Lesnar has been involved in Steveson’s career from early on
Gable Steveson is the next superstar who will rule combat sports for the coming decade or so; that’s just a fact. The 21-year-old has had the world in his palms since he began his amateur career, going on to win Olympic Gold at the age of 20.
Having lost only 2 matches in his amateur wrestling career, it’s clear that Steveson was born to do this. But before he was ruling the NCAA’s Division I and winning the Dan Hodge Trophy, the future Olympian got some invaluable advice from The Beast Incarnate. Brock Lesnar has been personally involved in the growth of Gabe’s career.

Speaking on the After The Bell Podcast with Corey Graves back in October 2021, Steveson revealed that before he had even won the collegiate title, Lesnar gave him some sage life advise. Gable said,
“Brock, a while ago, was preparing me for my long – the long journey that he knew I was going to have. Before I even won the national title, before I was even doing the things that I do now, Brock came in my freshman year of college, and talked to me about winning and friends and having the right people, having the right circle around you.” – Transcribed by Ringside News
The Beast Incarnate taught Gable the value of focusing on his goals and really pushing towards achieving them; and it looks like it’s going to be becoming The Next Big Thing in WWE.
Dave Meltzer: “The idea is for him to be another Brock Lesnar”
Despite being an established wrestler in his own right, Gable Steveson’s dream has been to become a WWE star. Last year, he signed an exclusive contract unlike any other in company history after meeting with Vince McMahon personally. The 21-year-old Wrestling Sensation made his on-screen WWE debut at SummerSlam 2021.
Since being drafted to the Raw brand, he’s been relatively quiet, presumably training at his private facility set up by WWE; and taking shots at the Tribal Chief, no less. That all might be changing soon, though, because according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current plan is to make Steveson an unstoppable force of nature akin to Brock Lesnar himself, when he first debuted in WWE.
To be fair to Vince, Steveson does have everything he looks for in his Superstars; the physique, the athleticism, and that undeniable “It” Factor. He’s been keeping a close eye on the business as well, having been spotted backstage at WWE Day 1 alongside Lesnar.

If things go according to plan, Gable Steveson might become a hybrid of the 2 competitors to put on the greatest Iron Man Match in WWE history. With the athletic pedigree of Kurt Angle and the killer instinct of Brock Lesnar, it wouldn’t surprise us if he does, indeed, become the Next Big Thing. Guess we’re going to have to wait for the Raw after WrestleMania 38 to find out!
