Keith Lee, one of the most exciting free agents in the pro-wrestling industry is reportedly in talks with AEW. The former NXT superstar was released by WWE last November along with his wife Mia Yim. It was reported last week that AEW had a huge interest in signing Lee to their star-studded roster.
New reports have emerged since then. According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, AEW is in talks with Keith Lee and the promotion is pretty close to signing the former NXT Champion if he hasn’t already signed on the dotted line. ‘”I know they’ve been talking to Keith Lee, I know that they were pretty close with Keith Lee if it’s not already a done deal. It probably is a done deal. I don’t know that ‘officially’, but that’s kind of been the word going around.”

Keith Lee signed for WWE as part of their NXT Brand in 2018. In 2020, The Bearcat was called up to the main roster and performed on the RAW brand. Keith Lee’s non compete ended recently and he is now free to sign
Tony Khan: A huge wrestler is on his way to AEW
Last week’s AEW Rampage had a huge announcement in-store from AEW President Tony Khan. During the episode, Khan revealed that ‘a top wrestler’ would be making his debut on the February 9th episode of AEW Dynamite and ‘that the person walking through the forbidden door are one and the same.’ He also added, ‘They’re walking through the door, signing a contract and slamming the door shut Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.’

While we don’t officially know whether it’s going to be the former NXT Champion, Dave Meltzer shed some light on this situation. “They announced a big debut on Wednesday. So, I’d say that the favorite would be Keith Lee. Could be Athena. John Hennigan is another one. Of the people whose 90-day non-competes ended, those were the three that I thought were the most viable to sign [with AEW].”
