WrestleMania 40 is right around the corner and WWE is about to put on the biggest match in recent memory. Hollywood superstar and legendary pro-wrestler Dwayne Johnson will team up with his cousin Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. However, there is some controversy about The Rock’s recent promos for the company.
Recent reports suggested that the 6-time WWE champion’s use of non-PG language has become an issue backstage with the TKO board. Veteran pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer broke the news and added that the bosses would like Johnson to follow the guidelines and be an ideal example for the kind of family-friendly product WWE wants to produce. But, that has not been the case recently.
During the March 15 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Dwayne Johnson used the word “sh*tting” during his legendary promo. Afterward, reports hit the internet that talents were unhappy that DJ was afforded the luxury to cut edgier promos when the others had to stick to the script. However, the $800 million rich superstar has finally addressed the reports.
Dwayne Johnson responds to Dave Meltzer’s report
Dwayne Johnson has been on fire since turning heel. Initially, the plan was for The Rock to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. However, with Cody Rhodes winning the Royal Rumble, many wanted him to ‘finish his story’ instead of Johnson fighting his cousin. Hence, WWE decided to turn The Rock heel and have him face Cody in a tag match.
Since then, Johnson used the mic to take out his frustrations and labeled Rhodes’ fans as “Cody Crybabies.” However, as per reports from Dave Meltzer, the vicious promos have not gone down well backstage. Now it seems like The Rock has taken the onus upon himself to discredit the reports.
Replying to a post from Wrestlelamia, Dwayne Johnson added, “This story is complete horsesh*t.”

While there have been many contrasting reports since his return, the 51-year-old has mostly kept quiet. So the question is, why did he decide to break the silence now? Perhaps one reason could be him being compared to Vince McMahon. The report added that DJ’s return may have brought back the “double standards” from the McMahon era. Hence, Dwayne may have thought it was the best time to put out his side of the story.
Since Vince McMahon resigned after the Janel Grant saga, Dwayne Johnson has not really addressed the issue. It is pretty evident that he wants to keep his distance from the former CEO. Hence, the report from Meltzer linking him with McMahon may not be the kind of press The Rock wants right before WrestleMania 40. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
