On the last SmackDown of 2022, John Cena will make his much-awaited return when he teams up with Kevin Owens to face Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn. The last time Cena wrestled on TV, it was in the SummerSlam 2021 championship match against Reigns.
The Bloodline came out in the ring during SmackDown’s final segment on 16/12. On the huge screen, Cena interrupted with a pre-recorded video. He mentioned how Owens texted him to point out that he had competed each year for the past 20 years, and not this year. Then Cena announced that he had accepted Owens’ offer to join forces with him to take on Reigns and Zayn.

It’s expected that Owens will challenge the Tribal Chief for the Undisputed Universal Championship at Royal Rumble after the tag team match. Cena, in meantime, is scheduled to make just one more appearance before returning to Hollywood. Cena tends to have at least one match every year.
It is unknown if he will be available for WrestleMania 39. For WM39, Austin Theory and LA Knight are seen as John Cena’s opponents. However, as it depends on when Logan will be given the all-clear to wrestle once more, Logan Paul vs. Cena is still kept at the top.
When will John Cena face Roman Reigns in a tag team match?
The return match of John Cena for the final 2022 SmackDown on FOX episode has been officially announced by WWE. As previously mentioned, tonight’s SmackDown included the announcement that Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn, the undisputed WWE Universal Champion, will join up to take on Kevin Owens and a partner of KO’s choosing on December 30 from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Cena made an appearance on screen to announce that he had accepted to be Owens’ partner that night after receiving a text from him.
Cena said that Kevin texted him. “And boy was I surprised when I got a text message out of the blue (from KO). What’s up Peacemaker? Peace sign emoji. Did you know that you’ve had a WWE match every year for the past 20 years except this one? Your streak’s about to be broken. Mind-blown emoji. Eggplant emoji. Santa Claus emoji. Peach emoji. Do you want to be my tag team partner on Smackdown in Tampa Florida?”
Then Cena said, “So let me get this straight. I haven’t had a match in 2022 and we’re running out of matches. And you’re asking if I want to team up with Kevin Owens against the Uciest Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns in a match that can’t be missed? Hell yes, I’ll be there! Hell yes, I’ll be your partner, and we’ll bring the fight to the Bloodline in the final Smackdown of 2022!.”
John Cena has competed in at least one match in WWE every year for the last 2 decades. To continue the streak, Cena announced his return to face the Tribal Chief and the Honorary Uce Sami Zayn. The match-up would eventually lead to Owens vs Reigns at Royal Rumble 2022.
