The Royal Rumble 2024 was undoubtedly an event to remember, with some great moments. Even though only four bouts were on show, there was plenty of spectator interest throughout the event. CM Punk and Cody Rhodes also gave it their all to make the show a success. However, despite all of the positives, Drew McIntyre is receiving a lot of criticism for his performance at the event.
On January 29, 2024, the episode of Monday Night RAW was also stacked from top to bottom with several appearances and matches. The first hour of the show was commercial-free, which hinted at a lot of stuff ahead. CM Punk kicked off RAW with his arm tied up, indicating that he was injured. He talked about how his arm got injured and that his dream of main eventing at WrestleMania will have to wait another year.
Teary-eyed Punk was joined by the Scottish Warrior in the ring, who had the perfect choice of words for this incident. He stated, “I prayed for this and it happened. When I got into that Rumble, I targeted you, I violently assaulted you. I could not let you win that event.” Drew further talked about how happy he was when he heard the news of the injury. “I exorcised the demon CM Punk,” claimed McIntyre.

McIntyre also talked about how he will be at the main event for the world title match at WrestleMania 40 and will be living Punk’s dream. The fans made their presence known by booing the former NXT Champion. With his new dark persona, Drew is on a roll and will stop for nothing but destruction. He even posted a photo of demolishing Punk’s dream to main event WrestleMania in a popular RIP meme template.
How did CM Punk suffer a career-threatening injury?
CM Punk came in at number 27 in the Royal Rumble match and battled everyone throughout the contest. His most memorable encounter was with Drew McIntyre when the two got into a massive brawl. McIntyre set the tempo in the last stages of the battle, wrestling with Punk.

The Scottish Warrior then hit CM Punk with a Future Shock DDT, leaving him distraught and rolling to the corner of the ring. Punk began squeezing his right arm, which was followed by the officials checking on the superstar. It was indeed the DDT that eventually led The Best in the World to tear his right tricep during the match. McIntyre has been hyped up about his role and has been showing a darker side over the past few months.
Drew McIntyre’s sarcastic post about Punk’s WrestleMania saw a lot of frustrated fans. Several Punk supporters talked about the levels of Drew’s tactics. “You should be fired’ wrote a fan in anger. Another fan warned him that, “He is coming back to ruin you.” A user on X wrote, “Brutal heel work”.
With a lot of anger in his mind, Drew McIntyre would look to reclaim the gold on his path to WrestleMania. He has had several issues with Seth Rollins in the past. Drew would look to lock horns with Seth again before ultimately winning the World Championship. Moreover, as per reports, McIntyre’s WWE contract is coming to an end.
Will CM Punk miss WrestleMania 40?
CM Punk made his future clear by stating that he would not headline WrestleMania in 2024 after suffering the injury. While talking about main eventing at WrestleMania on RAW, Punk stated, “I can get my main event at WrestleMania, but it’s just not in the cards and I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me.” Many fans also believe that this might be untrue and will be turned into an eventual storyline.

As things stand, Punk is not medically fit to compete at WrestleMania. Fans believed WWE planned for CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40. However, with his recent injury, things are not that obvious right now. It will be interesting to observe how things go for The Best in the World.
