SUMMARY
- Roman Reigns and Dwayne Johnson delivered an amazing show at WrestleMania 40.
- However, the show would have looked entirely different if WWE's original plans played out.
Roman Reigns’ historic title reign had everything it needed and can never be replicated again. His work ethic, unparalleled ring presence, and scintillating promos were the main highlights of his reign. Another high point from Roman’s title reign was the story involving the Bloodline. With The Rock entering the frame during the final phase of Roman’s reign, it was like the cherry on top of the cake.
Rock didn’t just return to the company in his usual character, he also debuted the “Final Boss” character that was loved by the WWE Universe. His gimmick was what made WrestleMania XL so special and exciting. The Rock showed everyone he could still hang around with main eventers and deliver outstanding storylines to the WWE Universe.
Being the Final Boss, Rock crossed all the limits to hype WrestleMania and went out like he used to in the Attitude Era. Everyone liked this move by the Final Boss as each week he had something stored for the audience. From bringing back his Hollywood Rock theme song to lashing out at Cody Rhodes under rainfall, Rock did everything he could to entertain the audience.
As for the audience, the best part of the rivalry was that everything was unexpected and no one saw it coming. This added more unpredictability and realism to the overall storyline. Things started after a face-off between Roman and Rock which was followed by an internet outrage for Cody. All this could’ve been done in a different way which might have ruined the fun for a lot of fans.
The Rumored plan for Rock vs Roman would have spoiled WrestleMania XL
As mentioned earlier, things started when Rock confronted The Tribal Chief hinting towards their title match at WrestleMania. According to several reports, at one point there was an idea backstage for The Rock defeating Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The rumors also state that after defeating Roman, Rock would have relinquished the title and went back to Hollywood.
This was surely one of the most underwhelming ideas pitched for WrestleMania XL. The match between the two cousins has been a dream match for ages but WrestleMania wasn’t the right call to have it. The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble twice to finish his story. Giving him his WrestleMania main event spot was one of the best decisions WWE made earlier this year.
If The Rock had mainevented against Roman, he would have faced serious backlash just like he received for stepping in between Cody’s story. Not to mention, how well executed the whole storyline was and how well Rock portrayed his role making it more realistic.
The Rock vs Roman Reigns must take place at WrestleMania 41
While the dream match couldn’t take place at WrestleMania XL, fans might have to wait a little longer for the ultimate showdown. With Roman and Rock out of the company for a while, The Bloodline is in the hands of Solo Sikoa who is dishing out orders.
The Tribal Chief is expected to make his next appearance in public for the Triple H-led promotion on Friday Night SmackDown before SummerSlam 2024. Since the event is still far off, he might return much sooner than this, but as of right now, it’s expected that he will be away from the company for a few months. Tama Tonga’s entrance has also caused disruptions to The Bloodline.
With his hiatus, things might turn worse for the Bloodline as The Rock would be returning soon to take out Cody. As per the speculations, a Bloodline Civil War is also another exciting storyline that might happen in the future. This will showcase The Rock’s Bloodline involving Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga facing Roman’s Bloodline including Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso.
